With companies like Netflix and Hulu providing a wide range of streaming content for relatively low prices, more and more people are electing to forego pay-TV subscriptions. But instead of providing their customers with more control over the content they pay for, they have, for the most part, just added more channels.

Verizon Fios Custom TV
aims to deliver the value and control that modern consumers want over their media subscriptions, in addition to some interesting features that streaming services still lack.

What Is Fios Custom TV?

Designed to provide consumers with more control over their pay-TV subscriptions, Verizon’s Fios TV service is perfect for people who want to customize their channel selection, get a great value, and make use of advanced DVR features. In addition to custom channel options, Fios TV offers a variety of TV plans similar to those offered by other pay-TV providers. Plus unlike other pay-TV services, Fios TV sends its content to viewers via Verizon’s 100% pure fiber-optic network for top quality.

How Fios Custom TV Works

When you sign up you will get a few options. Here’s a breakdown of the current Fios TV configurations available today.

Option 1 – Select a Custom TV Plan

Fios TV offers plenty of great HD content, but that’s not what sets it apart from other pay-TV services. Fios TV gives you the option to choose a channel package that fits your viewing preferences. That personalization is what really makes this service stand out.

Pricing is $64.99 per month. Choose your Custom TV package from the following list:
  • Action & Entertainment
  • Sports & News
  • Kids & Pop
  • News & Variety
  • Infotainment & Drama
  • Lifestyle & Reality
  • Home & Family

Option 2 – Select a Traditional TV Plan

The other option is to choose one of the existing Fios TV plans. These plans have been around for a few years. If you ever had Fios TV in the past, you might already be familiar with them.

Preferred HD: comes with over 70 HD channels and a total of more than 245 channels. It costs $74.99 per month.
Extreme HD: costs a little more at $79.99 per month. It comes with more than 95 HD channels and over 325 channels.
Ultimate HD: costs $89.99. It has more than 140 HD channels and a total of over 435 channels.

For those who only want local TV service through Verizon, the Fios TV Local plan is available for only $10.00 per month.

Stream Live TV to Your Mobile Device

All Fios TV Customers have the ability to stream live TV channels, including MTV, Comedy Central, NBC, AMC, and more. Free via the Fios Mobile app. The app is compatible with Android- and iOS-based devices. And it can also be used as a remote control for Fios TV and for scheduling and managing DVR recordings.

Premium, Enhanced, and Standard DVR Options

Fios Quantum TV Premium, Verizon’s most fully featured DVR service, records up to 200 hours of HD content. It’s also capable of recording up to 12 programs at once and controlling live television on as many as 10 TVs at once.

At the time of writing, Fios Quantum TV’s premium option costs an additional $32 per month. The enhanced option, which records up to 100 hours of HD content, will only add $22 to the monthly bill. Either of the Fios Quantum TV options can be used to stream recorded content to mobile devices or laptops while on the move.

Alternatively, Fios TV customers can opt for multi-room DVR service, standard DVR service, or no DVR service (to keep their monthly bill lower). Both the multi-room and the standard DVR services are capable of recording up to 50 hours of HD content and up to 2 programs at the same time. Unfortunately, these options don’t support the ability to stream recorded content over the Internet.

Package Deals with Fios Custom TV

For most people, the easiest way to save on Fios Custom TV is to sign up for Fios Triple Play. That bundle gives you High Speed Internet, Fios Custom TV, and home-phone service. Verizon’s Fios Internet, which was covered in this detailed blog post, is fast enough to allow users to stream high-definition video, participate in delay-free video chat, play the latest games online, and engage in nearly any other type of network-heavy activity with ease. As far as home telephone goes, Verizon’s service is quite good as well, offering high-quality audio and unlimited nationwide calling.

All things considered, Fios Triple Play is probably going to be your best value, especially if you need a fast broadband connection at home. Thanks so much Brett. My TWC bill is getting out of control and every six months the price increases for me so now I’m definitely going to switch to Verizon. I called TWC and they explained to me that I currently have the best plan however my plan will be going up again in September by $25 dollars so that made up my mind to check out Verizon plans and found an affordable one and will bundling tv, phone and internet. Your information and suggestions helped tremendously to make Verizon my carrier.
